Four Steps Forward, Two Steps Back (Whoop?)

I feel like I'm working clay on a potters wheel....I know I will turn out to be something great, but not after a couple of missed throws.....

But still it deserves a Whoop!. Check out Sarah and her quilters!

I finished my D4P blocks....but can't decide the placement....

This one kinda recreates the Rainbow effect with these Rainbow Charms....but the blue and teal together seem...........too blue.  Other than that, I really like it.  As I look at it, maybe I should change out the red (top left) and the blue (bottom right) or the teal (next to the blue) and the purple(bottom left).... ????

My DH suggested that I use the blue/teal as a dividing line like so with other colors grouped in 3s....

or lined up like the blue....

What do you think?  How many times do you play with placement???

On another note, I have finished binding my Quilt Along I did a looonnnggg time ago.  Or so I thought.  I used my featherweight with its' 1/4" seam and it really went well.....except when I finished....

This is the second place I have missed the binding underfold.  I am willing to rip and resew, but am afraid (no, I haven't looked yet) that this may not be all.  I am wondering if I should just resew all the way around....This is going to a relative for just a throw...

Well, that's another decision I will have to make.......must remember next time to allow maybe a little more than 1/4" along the binding.....

How much do you allow for when you bind?

Must close now,,,enough Creative Procrastinating on my part (writing a post instead of making a decision).

See you in a couple of days with the Mini-Giveaway......

Funny - I like the first lay-out. I like to do a 1/8" baste seam all the way around - to hold it all in place - then attach binding with a 1/4" - never miss a spot (maybe just lucky)

I like layout #1, too!

I like #1 best also. I miss the back of the binding *all* the time. I like Sharon's suggestion -- definitely going to try that next time!

I like the first layout. Seems more balanced.

I like the 1st and the 3rd - to me it depends on how you would like the quilt to feel - more "rainbow" like (#3) vs. natural gradient (#1). Both are lovely.

Love your rainbow blocks. First layout seems more pretty :)

Visiting from Can I get a whoop whoop...I like the first layout too. I recently made a D9P--such fun! And yes, I've done that with binding too. So frustrating, especially when you just want to be done with a project! :)

Oh my goodness, how much do I hate block placement! I can move blocks forever until I'm satisfied and then everytime I still find something half way through quilting that I can't stand! My husband usually keeps me in perspective and says he doesn't notice what I'm talking about.
I think all your placements look good. Just pick one and remember that no one who snuggles under it will ever notice.

I'm probably really late with this comment. Love your D4 Patch. I like the last picture the best. Can't wait to see which one you chose! Do you press your seams open on these? I've done a few blocks--I love to seem them in quilts, but I don't like doing them for some reason. But, I really like your using different colors with the white!

You may have already put the top together, but option three looks really nice... Well, they would all work. Yes, I spend time figuring out the placement of blocks, too, it usually leave them on my design wall for a few days. As for the binding, I wonder why that happened. I do leave 1/4" around, and if I were almost done with the binding, I would fix that spot, and go around with a decorative stitch over the binding, just to ensure the whole thing stays in place. Crazy, huh? But it would look nice and no one would know you actually had a method to the craziness!

I like the D4 Patch! I will have to look back and see how you made the block! I like the third layout (of those you showed) the best. It,s sort of like a rainbow!
