Mother's Sewing Room Treasures

I am going through Mother's things..she had a room where she kept most of her sewing, crafts, etc...

See what I found...

The one on the left is Model 500A, the other one is a 503A.  The manual is for a Kenmore Model 33 Zig-Zag Sewing Machine.  Don't know if she has that one tucked away somewhere or not...These are both considered "portable", but they are heavy dudes!

As soon as my sister decides which she wants, I am going to take the other one to a retired Singer repairman to get it cleaned and fixed up...Anyone with a suggestion as to how I can ship it to her? (from TX to NH)..I am seriously considering buying an Igloo or something like it for a shipping crate....It will cost an arm and a leg but may stand a better chance of getting there...

Yes, the black things in the ziplock are some cams..hopefully they will fit both of them...

I ran across some old bobbins as well..

They are slightly bigger than the metal ones in the machines, so don't know what they might go with...any ideas???   I know they are older because they have more holes in them....if that is any indication of age....

Oh, the markings on the bottom of the left one?  Either my grandmother or my mother marked the inches there,,,I guess for convenience sake.

Bloggus Interruptus interrupted

Yes, I am still here...

I have been working on another non quilty project..just started sorting out my mother's things after a long period of time..this will involve trips to her home and back, then sorting, packing and sending various items to distant relatives..

My den is Chaos Central right now, and will remain so for quite awhile.

I was going to neglect this blog due to time, but decided not to.  I need my quilting more than ever to keep me in the present and soothe my mind.

I have been progressing with my Christmas skirt.  All it needs is a binding now.

I started my Wounded Warrior quilt which has to be done by April...it will be a zig saw puzzle design.  I have one row done, working on the second row now...will have 8 rows (56 blocks).

Hopefully, next time I can report more progress....on both fronts....I'll be heading down to get more treasures this next week so my posts may be a little farther apart, but I am still hanging in there...

Oh,,

No picture yet, but wait until I show you what Mother had in her sewing room!

Next time.....

Back Home....CatchUp Time

As is usual,  there are many First Things to be done once you return from a trip.

And as usual, I am regulating them to secondary status while I review the happenings of the last 2 weeks or so....

We saw our grandchildren,,,,,and children and spouses....Great time was had by all...pictures of a personal nature (kids, etc) were taken and admired and will be passed around family for weeks to come.

I did not go to any quilt stores on the way, although it was tempting...I realized we had to eat and pay bills when we got home.  I did take a couple of things to work on in the evenings at the motels and did make a small start on one of them...slow progress..cannot work in the car...we needed all 4 of our eyes on this trip.

I ran across one(1) quilt on the wall of a Bob Evans Restaurant in Hagerstown, MD...or was it Bridgeport WV??? Memory loss again. DH says Hagerstown so we will go with that for now....definitely a Bob Evans though...

I felt the quiltiness all through the trip and thought of you guys a lot, wondering if I was within a few miles of some of you...

Here are a few towns we went through on our trip from Texas to Kentucky and Northern Virginia...Imagine a virtual wave from yours truly as you read.....

....Texarkana TX...Little Rock AR..Jackson TN.. Elizabethtown KY.. Florence KY.. Athens OH..Parkersburg WV..Bridgeport WV.. Falls Church VA..Wythesville VA.. Kingsport TN..Sweetwater TN.. Knoxville TN..Meridian MS.. Jackson MS..Monroe LA.. Shreveport LA.

Now home...have to check on the washer/dryer, start on a couple of quilts I need to finish the binding/labels on and go on with life.

Oh, BTW, we came home with internet wiring issues. The computer is fine but we find we need a replacement/update on some of our internet hard electronic parts..hopefully will be fixed by tomorrow morning.. in the meantime, I have to continually restart the internet which lasts a short time each time...
