Reason Why One Should Not Procrastinate....Mini Giveaway #15

This is a combination Giveaway and normal post....

Well,  almost normal.

I waited until about 6:30 Sunday night our time to decide what to highlight as a giveaway today.

About that time DH came in and wondered what the weather looked like on our weather site....."looks as if we might be in for a blow"...rain we weren't too sure of...but we did hear thunder...

Well, not to prolong the story too much, we heard a large thunder clap and went out on the front porch, looking for rain..we hadn't had any to speak of for a long, long time and we were ready for some action...we got it...

Looked out toward the far pasture and saw......fire....caused by a lightning strike...It was at the other end of the pasture away from us. Imagine a rectangle....that is our property..the fire was at one end of the rectangle and we are very close to the other end..so no immediate problem, but nevertheless,,, I never have had to call 911 before, but I ran in while DH ran to the tractor to hitch up the plow in case we had to plow a ditch between us and the fire..

So I tried to call 911 on our land line, but the lightning strike may have fried it and it was no good....will find out more on Monday..  then I grabbed our cell phone and called...gave the necessary information and stayed on the line until she said I could go..

By then, about 10 minutes had passed, and .......we got rain! Not just gentle rain, but hard, driving rain,,
DH put the tractor back in the pole barn, got the truck and drove out to where the fire had been, but was no more....big black patch....

Fire engines came (volunteer), checked us out and continued down the road to another reported fire close by,,which, we assume was also contained by the rain and checked out by the firemen....

Rain continued for about 15 minutes or so...

How lucky can we get.... and it all happened within a 40 minute time period....I think.....

So,,,,we came in, changed our wet clothes, had a cup of tea,  and now I am ready to continue with the normal giveaway.

Mini-Giveaway #15

After all of the above, I am now ready, almost at the last minute, to show you what is being given away.. next time I won't wait until the last minute...it might not get done!

And ya'll are lucky, because I added a few more items as a general thanks to the Power that Be...

You might recognize these from the yearly giveaway in April....

I decided not to cut these into 1/2 yard pieces...they are all going to go...perfect for little boys or young men....some are cotton, but I have a feeling a couple may have a flannel feeling...

So...DH will draw on August 17th after 10:00am.  Be sure to comment and be available to notify.

This next week, I plan to PLAN....maybe even get all the posts ready for the remaining giveaways until the end of the year......more on that later....

Come fire or high water,,, please No, God,,,, we will have our Giveaways!

OMG! We were in Cherokee, NC this past weekend and stopped in a store advertising "Lace, Fabric and Local Indian Goods" and I saw some John Deere fabric I wanted to buy to make a quilt for our grandson. But evidently hubby wasn't in a generous mood, because he nixed the idea of me buying the fabric. So maybe this was meant to be!!! You can stop the giveaway now. This fabric was meant for me! Well...for my grandson! I'd love to win. Glad to hear everything is okay there at the house after the fire. And good luck with the landline. I'm keeping fingers crossed for you.

We had some lightening strikes too, no fires, but trees blown up into kindling. And then the heavy rain. Glad you were safe. I am throwing my hat into the ring - my grandson would love the John Deere - his mom (my daughter) made one as a commission quilt and he cried for days because it wasn't for him.

That must have been really scary. Glad the rains came and put out the fire. Your giveaway is so cute and I just found out my nephew is having a baby boy in a few months. I keep looking for boy theme fabric now. Thanks for the chance to win.

We have great afternoon rainstorms, but not this year. We also have great lighting shows but again, this year has been very strange. Glad you survived it all.

You both must have been terrified, thank God for the rain. I'm so glad your safe. We've had thunder, lightening and rain for days, 10 inches yesterday. Nothing like your experience. All that and you were thinking about a giveaway? What a quilter!!!!! ;>

Thank God for rain and that the lightening struck the other end of your property! I don't mind a good, hard rain, but thunder/lightening tends to scare the dickens out of me! All that and you STILL do a giveaway. Amazing! :o)

Oh my goodness! Glad things worked out well. We love John Deere at our house. I love the first fabric with the barns, cows and sheep. Do you by chance know the name of that one? Thanks!

Oh, I am so thankful that all is well! We have had lightning strikes and even a microburst...they called it that, but I'd swear it was a tornado, because we had trees twisted off halfway up the trunk! Hope your phone is back and everything is back to normal. Thanks for the chance to win...I'd like to put those fabrics into a quilt for a new baby at the crisis center.
